Every American should experience Lake Tahoe in their lifetime. Like any place you visit, the experience means much more to you if you understand its history. This new book, Historic Photos of Lake Tahoe, uses a well organized thread of pictures and words describing two centuries of history explaining why Lake Tahoe is what it is today. I have spent lots of my life, the last 20 years, reading about and experiencing the Lake Tahoe area. I have had a catamaran sail boat on Lake Tahoe since 1996 and have used it to explore all 72 miles of its shoreline in all four seasons experiencing the lakes many weather faces. I have hiked the rim trail that offers bird's eye views of the Tahoe Basin and the trail from Donner Lake, near Truckee, to Squaw Valley ski run peaks overlooking Tahoe.
This book does the best job of any source I have seen to make Tahoe history come alive. I think this well organized thread of pictures and historical text vividly merges the Lake Tahoe experience into your soul. The first time you read this book I suggest doing it in one sitting; it took me a few hours. You will experience the historical thread from the Washoe Indians to the modern times we live in. The historical text is brief but rich, factual and thought provoking. I am sure you will find yourself referring again and again to the pictures and text for things you want to research or experiencing the comparison of a picture while standing in the very place it was taken long ago.
